Job Coaching

The JOY Employability Program allows individuals with special needs the opportunity to be employed under the mentoring of a job coach. The purpose of this program is to train and support individuals with special needs with the intention that in the future the job coach can transition out of the workplace and allow the employee to work on their own.

What is a Job Coach?

Job coaching for individuals with special needs involves tailored support from a trained specialist who helps employees learn job-specific tasks and build essential social and communication skills. The goal is to ensure success both on the job and within the workplace community. In addition to hands-on job training, job coaching includes assessments, job placement assistance, counseling, advocacy, travel training, and other services designed to help individuals thrive and maintain long-term employment.

Guide and Support: Help employees with disabilities learn their new job and integrate smoothly into the workplace.
Foster Independence: Empower the employee to become a confident, capable, and independent member of their team.

Substitute for the Employee: Step in if the employee is absent or unable to attend work.
Work as a Coworker: Perform the job tasks alongside the employee.
Guarantee Productivity: Ensure the employer’s production quotas are met.

Benefit(s) of a Job Coach?

Through job coaching, a trained specialist works one-on-one with an individual with a disability at a training or placement site. The coach helps the individual understand the specific job requirements, learn important work-related skills such as time management and attendance, and develop appropriate social and professional behaviors when interacting with supervisors and coworkers.
